State & Local Government Energy Finance

Many local governments and State agencies can use energy efficiency and renewable energy to reduce costs, improve operations, and reduce the "crunch" of lower budgets.

For over two decades, MEA has offered loans to local governments for cost-effective energy efficiency projects. Currently, the Lawton Loan Program has funding available.

Local governments and public housing authorities may be good candidates for self-financing energy performance contracts. MEA offers the Energy Performance Contracting Assistance Program to help local governments and PHAs gauge opportunity afforded by EPCs and navigate the process.

State agencies may borrow zero-interest loans (with a one-percent administrative fee) for qualifying clean energy projects.
