BALTIMORE – The Maryland Energy Administration today announced the availability of $4.9 million in available grant funding to help public school districts shift to cleaner, healthier, and cheaper-to-operate transportation solutions by providing funding for electric school buses and related infrastructure.
The Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) Electric School Bus Grant Program grants cover up to 120 percent of the incremental cost of eligible vehicles. Funding can be used for the purchase of electric school buses, charging infrastructure, and associated costs.
“The air our kids breathe should be as clean as possible. That’s why our Electric School Bus Grants Program helps school districts invest in cleaner, electric buses,” said Maryland Energy Administration Director Paul G. Pinsky. “Electric buses deliver lower long-term operations and maintenance costs for school districts – and cleaner rides for our kids every day.”
Applications for the FY26 Electric School Bus Grant Program are being accepted now through December 16th, 2025 at 3:00 pm ET. Full details on eligibility, program guidelines, and the application process can be found on the program webpage.
The Maryland Energy Administration also offers grants to move Maryland’s public school buildings toward cleaner energy solutions. The agency’s Decarbonizing Public Schools Program is offering $36 million in grants to help Local Education Agencies across Maryland expand clean energy systems and cost-saving energy efficiency technologies. These investments support school districts in managing energy data, cutting emissions and energy use, and designing the next generation of high-performance schools.
