Program Status Update 9/30/26: The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently issued updated  program guidance and application materials for the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Home Energy Rebate Programs. States that have not yet launched their programs, like Maryland, are required to revise and resubmit their applications to comply with DOE’s updated requirements. On 9/30/26, MEA submitted updated applications for both IRA Home Energy Rebate Programs to DOE. The timeline for program launch remains dependent on when DOE reviews and approves these applications.

MEA remains committed to ensuring these federal funds benefit Marylanders by improving access to affordable energy upgrades. MEA will update this webpage as new information becomes available. For more information on these programs, please visit DOE’s IRA Home Energy Rebates webpage.

Program Overview

The IRA established two home energy rebate programs to support home energy efficiency projects and electric appliance upgrades:
  • Homeowners Managing Energy Savings Rebate Program (HOMES): supports whole-home energy efficiency projects that achieve a minimum energy savings threshold.
  • High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Program (HEEHR): provides rebates for eligible electric appliances, equipment, and supporting upgrades.
