All MEA Incentives


The Maryland Energy Administration manages grants, loans, rebates, and tax incentives designed to help attain Maryla​nd's Goals in energy reduction, renewable energy, climate action, and green jobs. Through the programs below, MEA helps Maryland residents, businesses, non-profits, and local governments implement energy efficiency upgrades and install renewable energy systems.

Residential Incentives

 
Bio-heating oil purchases Receive tax credits for purchasing biofuels.
Clean Burning Wood Stove Grant Program Receive grants for clean wood burning stoves.

Maryland Home Energy Loan Program Apply for energy-efficiency improvement loans of up to $20,000.
Residential Clean Energy Grant Program Receive financial assistance to install solar photovoltaic, solar water heating, geothermal heat pump, and wind turbine systems.
Windswept Grant Program Offers Maryland residents, busineses, and non-profits the opportunity to install and manage their own wind energy systems.

Bioheat Tax Credit Program Receive tax credits for producing biofuels.
Clean Energy Production Tax Credit Receive tax credits for producing electricity.
​Combined Heat and Power Grant Program (CHP)​​​ ​Incentives for CHP projects in hospitals and waste water treatment facilities.​
Commercial and Industrial Grant Program ​A competitive program that provides grants for deep electricity retrofit projects in commercial, industrial and non-profit facilities.
Commercial Clean Energy Grant Program Receive financial assistance to install solar photovoltaic, solar photovoltaic canopy, ​solar water heating, geothermal heat pump, and wind turbine systems.
Commercial Wood Energy Grant Program​​ ​MEA will provide grants to help conduct wood energy conversion system feasibility studies.​
Demand Response and Building Automation Program​​ ​A competitive program that provides grants for demand side resource projects that use state-of-the-art power controls, communication, and building automation technologies.​

Game Changer Program: Energy Innovation Competitive Grants MEA will provide grants to innovative clean energy projects that are in the early stages of commercialization.
Jane E. Lawton Conservation Loan Program Apply for a loan to identify and install energy conservation improvements.
Kathy A. P. Mathias Agriculture Energy Efficiency Program Receive grants ranging from $25,000 to $200,000 to assist with the costs of installing eligible energy efficiency technologies.
Maryland Statewide Farm Energy Audit Program Participate in a farm energy audit and apply for cash rebates for energy saving projects.
​Parking Lot Solar PV Canopy with EV Charger Grant Program​​ ​This program provides grants for the installation of parking lot solar canopies with electric vehicle chargers.​
State Anemometer Loan Program Borrow a wind measuring devices to quantify and characterize wind resources available on a property.
Windswept Grant Program Offers Maryland residents, businesses, and non-profits the opportunity to install and manage their own wind energy systems.

State, Local, and Non-Profit Incentives

 
Commercial Clean Energy Grant Program Receive financial assistance to install solar photovoltaic, solar water heating, geothermal heat pump, and wind turbine systems.
EmPOWER Clean Energy Communities Low-to-Moderate income Grant Program ​Local governments and non-profits can apply for competitive grants to enable energy efficiency projects that benefit low-to-moderate income Marylanders.
Combined Heat and Power Grant Program (CHP)​ ​Incentives for CHP projects in hospitals and waste water treatment facilities.
​Energy Performance Contracting Assistance Program (EPCAP)​ ​MEA provides technical assistance and "owner's agent" services to local governments and public housing authorities to identify the feasibility and aide in the implementation of energy performance contracts for buildings.
Game Changer Program: Energy Innovation Competitive Grants MEA will provide grants to innovative clean energy projects that are in the early stages of commercialization.
Jane E. Lawton Conservation Loan Program Apply for a loan to identify and install energy conservation improvements.
​Maryland Smart Energy Communities (MSEC)​ ​After voluntarily adopting energy policies focused on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and transportation fuels, participating local governments become eligible for grant funding to enable energy projects within their community.​
Net Zero Energy School Initiative Grant Program​ (NZEGPS)​ ​MEA will provide grants to Local Education Agencies within the BGE Service Territory to design and construct Net-Zero Energy Schools.​
State Agency Loan Program (SALP) State agencies can apply for loans to fund cost-effective energy efficiency improvements in State facilities.

Transportation Incentives

 
Alternative Fuels Tax Credit Receive federal income tax credits for the installation of alternative fuel systems.
Electric Vehicle Excise Tax Credit Receive an excise tax credit on a qualifying plug-in electric vehicle. Business entities may also qualify for the tax credit on up to 10 vehicles.
Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Rebate Program Through the program, residents, governments and businesses can acquire a state rebate for purchasing and installing an electric vehicle charging station, known as Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE)​
Game Changer Program: Energy Innovation Competitive Grants MEA will provide grants to innovative clean energy projects that are in the early stages of commercialization.
Maryland Freedom Fleet Voucher Program MEA will provide financial assistance for the purchase of new and converted alternative fueled vehicles registered in the state of Maryland.
Renewable Fuels Incentive Board Get an award of up to a $0.20 per gallon financial credit for the production of qualifying renewable fuels.
