*NEW MEA GEOTHERMAL HEATING AND COOLING REBATE PROGRAM*
PROGRAM COMING SOON
The Maryland Energy Administration is pleased to announce the upcoming FY25 Geothermal Rebate Program. This Program will provide rebates to Maryland residents, businesses, nonprofits, and State and local government agenices that install geothermal heating and cooling systems at their facilities as the primary heating and cooling system. They are also known as "ground-source heat pumps." This Program replaces geothermal rebates offered under the discontinued Residential and Commercial Clean Energy Rebate Programs. The Maryland Energy Administration anticipates posting the Program's Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) and opening it for applications by early 2025. Stay tuned to this webpage for updates.
MEA is finalizing the online application portal, and is working through a small technical issue. We anticipate that the Program will launch by mid-March 2025. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
Program Purpose: The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) FY25 Geothermal Rebate Program is provided to help eligible Maryland residents, businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies (Maryland State and local) with the cost of geothermal heating and cooling (GHC) systems that they have installed at their properties. GHC systems provide energy-efficient heating and cooling using the ground temperature, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from more traditional heating and cooling systems that rely on fossil fuels. This Program replaces the GHC rebates that were available under the previous Residential and Commercial Clean Energy Rebate Programs.
Type of Program: The Geothermal Rebate Program is offered to Maryland residents, businesses, nonprofits, and Maryland state and local government agencies on a noncompetitive, first-come, first-served basis. Rebate applicants must meet all eligibility requirements specified in the Program's Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), which will be published in the coming weeks. Rebates must be applied for after the system has been fully-installed and has started operating.
Anticipated Program Budget: MEA is finalizing the budget numbers, but anticipates that approximately $300,000 will be available from the Strategic Energy Investment Fund. Final budget numbers will be provided when the Program opens for applications.
Questions: Questions about the Program can be directed to the MEA Clean Energy and Resilience Team at CleanEnergy.MEA@Maryland.gov.
