​​Maryland Agricultural Businesses Improve Efficiency to Accomplish an Estimated $88,691 in Annual Savings

Thirteen Maryland Farms and agricultural businesses leveraged MEA's FY16 Mathias Ag Program to significantly reduce energy use in their operations. Grants up to $60,000 supported the installation of eligible energy efficiency measures. The approximately $380,000 dispersed in the 2017 program realized 126,795 kWh in estimated annual electric savings and 5,978  MMBtu in heating fuel savings.

This program was dedicated in the memory of Kathleen Arlee "Kathy" Petry Mathias of Ocean City, who passed away Aug. 15, 2011 after a battle with cancer. The wife of Maryland State Senator James N. Mathias Jr., Kathy was an inexhaustible advocate for Maryland's Eastern Shore and its farming community. Energy efficiency support for Maryland agriculture businesses continues under the Commerical Industrial & Agriculture (CI&A) grant.
