BALTIMORE – The Maryland Energy Administration today announced that Director Paul G. Pinsky will retire at the end of November. Pinsky, 75, headed the agency for almost three years, following more than three decades of service in the Maryland General Assembly.
“It’s hard to overstate the magnitude of Paul Pinsky’s impact on the State of Maryland,” said Governor Wes Moore. “Throughout his decades of service, Paul has championed issues of civil rights and liberties, environmental protections, smart energy policy, education, and so much more. I have been honored to have Paul by my side at the Maryland Energy Administration, where he has always offered clear counsel and steady guidance. His unwavering love for Maryland and dogged pursuit of progress will be felt for generations to come. We wish him the very best in this next chapter.”
“I am exceptionally proud to have led the Maryland Energy Administration during a transformational and impactful chapter of its life. Governor Wes Moore refocused this agency to better promote affordable, clean and reliable energy for all Marylanders. We successfully navigated a period of unprecedented growth to do so. The agency and the state are now far better positioned to make a positive impact on residents’ lives,” said Director Pinsky. “Many of the programs that the Maryland Energy Administration administers grew out of the Climate Solutions Now Act of 2022, landmark legislation that I sponsored, and the opportunity to secure its legacy has been a distinct pleasure.”
Director Pinsky’s tenure at the Maryland Energy Administration immediately followed 28 years of service in the Maryland State Senate, where he was widely recognized as a leader on matters of environmental and economic justice. Also a career educator, Pinsky’s accomplishments in the Senate included being a key architect of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Act, which codified many of the recommendations of the Commission on Innovation and Excellence in Education (Kirwan Commission).
Director Pinsky’s long-time legislative aide, Ian Ullman, will serve as Acting Director.
