The Electrifying Community Buildings Program anticipates offering total Fiscal Year 2026 funding of $6.8 million for building electrification upgrades that replace existing fossil fuel-powered equipment with efficient electric alternatives. This includes electric heat pumps, water heaters, and ENERGY STAR appliances, as well as building improvements like air sealing and improved wiring and system controls.
“Through the Electrifying Community Buildings Program, Maryland is focused on advancing clean energy use by buildings that provide considerable value to their surrounding communities – cutting costs for consumers and addressing the urgent need for climate progress at the same time,” said Maryland Energy Administration Director Paul G. Pinsky. “The agency is especially excited to focus on buildings that serve overburdened communities, helping them improve their operating budgets while they continue to provide essential services and amenities.”
Now in its second year of grant offerings, this program was developed as a result of Governor Wes Moore’s commitment to invest $50 million for grants to electrify hospitals, schools, multi-family housing, and other community buildings – and $90 million overall for climate progress.
The Electrifying Community Buildings application submission window is open through December 31, 2025. For more information or assistance, subscribe to MEA email updates or contact Program Manager, Megan Lackay, at [email protected].
