Clean Cities FY09 Petroleum Reduction

Transportation Grant Program

The goal of this program is to aid in the development of a cleaner and more efficient transportation system in Maryland. This program will make awards for projects in the following three categories;

I. Biofuels including renewable liquid or gaseous fuels

II. Electric transportation

III. Consumer behavior modification

Renewable Fuels Promotion Program

The Renewable Fuels Promotion Act of 2005 created the Renewable Fuels Incentive Board. Designed to attract investment in the bio-fuels industry and to offer farmers additional market opportunities for their small grains and soybeans, the Act authorizes the award of up to a $0.20 per gallon financial credit for the production of qualifying renewable fuels.

Alternative Fuels

 

Federal Income Tax Credits exist for the installation of alternative fuel systems. The infrastructure development provision was part of the 2005 Energy Policy Act and provides a 30% federal income tax credit, up to $30,000 per property, to install alternative fuel dispensing systems.

Wind farms in the U.S. have helped avoid nearly 62 million pounds of pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx), tied to global climate change.

Hydrogen in the Classroom
  • MEA has partnered with General Motors to educate students about the benefits of hydrogen technology in transportation. Representatives are available to make classroom visits and to bring GM’s HydroGen3 Fuel Cell vehicle to schools. Middle school and high school teachers are invited to email crice@energy.state.md.us for more information on this exciting learning opportunity.
