Frederick County Implements a New Energy Management Approach!

The Frederick County school board recently passed an energy policy requiring the establishment of a proactive energy efficiency program. Frederick’s energy management plan calls for a contact from each school to serve as a liaison with the county’s energy management team. The district energy purchasing and management team held a workshop where these liaisons gathered to better understand the energy management program and obtain skills to implement energy savings efforts in their own schools. MEA representatives attended these trainings and delivered an energy management training specifically written for Maryland School Staff.

Each school representative will be charged with taking the lessons learned at this workshop back to their school and implement energy savings efforts that they feel will work best. The three-member energy team at the district level will be available to assist these school coordinators with resources, advice, and even on-site energy audits. The district is also actively benchmarking and tracking energy performance on a school-by-school basis and making this information available to the schools themselves to track their own performance.
