ENERGY STAR Refrigerators

Want to save money and protect the environment? Ask for ENERGY STAR. By earning the ENERGY STAR and meeting strict performance criteria, the refrigerator will:

refrigeratorSave money. Compared to a non-qualified product, a qualified refrigerator can save a Maryland resident $150 over its life, and pay off the increased price tag in as little as two years.

Save energy. Qualified refrigerator models use at least 20 percent less energy than current conventional models. If you’re replacing a model made before 1993, you will save more than half the energy now used to keep your food cold.

Save your food. Advanced temperature and humidity controls and special compartments help keep your food fresh longer.

Perform better. ENERGY STAR Qualified refrigerators use high efficiency compressors, improved insulation, and more precise temperature and defrost mechanisms to improve energy efficiency.

Come just the way you want it. Qualified models are available with top, bottom, and side-by-side freezers, and can include automatic ice-makers and through-the-door ice dispensers.

Save the environment. By using less energy you reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

The savings go beyond just the refrigerator. ENERGY STAR qualified freezers also cut your energy bills, saving at least 10 percent in energy costs compared to non-qualified models.

Did you know that second refrigerator or freezer down in the basement might be costing you almost $200 each year? When replacing your old fridge, don’t move it to the basement. Recycle it to save money and valuable resources.
