Wind MapsMEA is currently developing Maryland's wind energy program and is a partner with the US Department of Energy's Wind Powering America Program. This program, dedicated to increasing wind energy use throughout the United States, will also support regional economic development and local environmental efforts, and increase power generation options and energy security. MEA is excited to be able to offer interested parties a free copy of the wind maps prepared for the Maryland Energy Administration by TrueWind Solutions, LLC, in conjunction with the US Department of Energy. These maps show mean wind speed at 30 m, 50 m, 70 m, and 100 m height and of mean wind power at 50 m height on a 20 m grid covering Maryland. To get your copy of the Maryland Wind Maps and the free ArcExplorer viewing program, you will need to download a ZIPPED file containing all the maps and the viewer by clicking the link below. It is a very large file and will take a quality, fast connection to be able to download the file.
Note: According to ESRI, the maker of ArcExplorer, ArcExplorer 2 works on Windows 98/2000/NT operating systems. However, users report that it also works on Windows 95 and Windows Me operating systems. Because of the large data files, it is recommended that you have at least 128 MB of RAM.
