Additional Information |
To help building officials, designers, and builders in Maryland evaluate and attain compliance with the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) , the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) has compiled lists of qualified professionals to provide compliance services, is creating training videos (at the bottom of this page) and informational pamphlets to be distributed to local code offices. Links and contact info for these services and other useful links can be found on this page. By Maryland statute, all localities should be enforcing the 2012 IECC by July 1, 2012.
Code Compliance Service Providers
New requirements of the 2012 IECC mandate minimum air infiltration and duct leakage. Testing for compliance with these minimum standards can be done by third-party entities that have been approved by the local building official. The following links provide lists of professionals in Maryland who, when approved by local officials, are qualified to perform these tests:
- Duct tightness testing (per section R403.2.2)
- Air envelope infiltration testing (per section R402.4.1.2)
The code allows for a type of compliance evaluation known as “simulated performance,” which uses software to compare the energy use of a new house design against a standard design. The following link provides a list of professionals in Maryland who, when approved by local officials, are qualified to perform this evaluation:
Code training videos
Code training videos are in production, and will be posted as they are created. Three separate video series will target different audiences. There will be a series targeting builders that will feature practical advice on building envelope air sealing, insulation, and mechanical requirements such as duct sealing. Another series will help building officials interpret code compliance in both plan review and site visit stages. The third series will help design professionals understand what components of the energy code need to be included in plans. Check here for updates before the end of 2012.
